Memory and intimacy have been recurring themes in my works. During this last period, the “family photography” has represented one of my major interests and concerns. The fact that people collect photos, takes them and keeps them for years is very appealing to me. They become objects that are passed from generation to generation. They are inherited. That’s what happened in my family and it gained my total interest. There comes a point when those photos fall into a stranger’s hands, to whom said photographs mean nothing. Because family photos have a sentimental value only for a certain circle of people (generally the ones captured in them) and sometimes they’re sold to flea markets, accidentally or not. The loss of sentimental attachment is also very interesting to me. Because in the end, it’s just an image printed on a piece of paper. What give meaning to that paper are memories and the sense of nostalgia that we grant it.
